The Work
The teacher who became a storyteller.
Teacher Man chronicles Frank McCourt's thirty years as an educator in New York City's public high schools, including his years teaching at Stuyvesant High School.
Published in 2005, Teacher Man is McCourt's account of how a reluctant, untested young teacher learned — slowly, and often comically — to hold the attention of a classroom by telling stories. It is a book about the unexpected exchange between teacher and student: about mentorship, about the courage it takes to speak honestly in front of others, and about the extraordinary influence that teachers and students can have on one another.
It is also, quietly, the story of how a teacher became a writer. Teacher Man forms part of the literary portfolio of Tenney Diamond Productions.
